Oreos- Nathan Etheridge

I learned many things while working on this project. one of the most important things that I learned was that working in a team is always very useful. The hardest thing we had to do was to build a contraption that released the perfect amount of oreos into the sundae and then stopped the oreos until the next bowl came. We had problems with the oreo pieces clogging in the bottom of the release point. The easiest thing we did was designing the program because it was very simple. It was awesome to see the robo sundae actualy complete one full run without any disasters or minor mistakes.

Final Post

I learned a lot from doing this project. The most difficult part of the project was getting the robot to un-jam the candy and let the right amount of pieces come out. The easiest part of the project was programming the robot, seeing as though it only had a few steps. In the process of completing this project i learned that you can customize and program these robots any way you want, there doesnt always have to be written instructions.

Overall after a few final adjustments, the sprinkles were able to go into the ice cream with no problem. We had to add a wait block after the stopper came down so that the sprinkles wouldnt fall out to early. We also had to slow down the speed of the arm so it wouldnt blow up the ice cream.

Final Words on the Final by: Daniel Poschel

Team Conveyor. (Jonah Beri and Daniel Poschel)
Well today we finally finished. Not a whole lot was changed for the conveyor today. I made a very minor modification to the axle of the moving wheels. It was simply to add some stability to increase the straightness of the path of travel of the robot. Overall it made a pretty big difference because the robot effectively was able to carry the ice-cream to all the stations only having issues when it ran over candy and such. I was quite proud of all the teams for making their dispensers work. Good job everyone.
Our robot worked very well. The only change that we had to make was changing the arm farther back so that the conveyor would line up properly so our robot could dump the reeses in the bowl

final thoughts

Our project was to create a robot that would be a part of a conveyor line that would put toppings on some icecream. We were one of the first groups done and so when the final project came we did not need many adjustment with our program and our robot. Still we needed a few adjustments. Like we had to change the settings on the ultrasonic sensor and move the robot slightly forward. thats it The end good bye

Olson and Piscano Cookie Dough

In the final run, everything was able to work! The pour worked and got the pieces in the bowl. The gate came down, and came back up like it should. Also, the ultrasonic sensor was able to read the conveyor when we changed the settings of the distance that it recognized the robot. Im just happy our station worked perfectly, and in the end on the final trial, cookie dough was good to go.

Final

We just successfully completed our final and have now started to clean up the kits. Our conveyor bot needed to be realigned but other than that our bot worked like a charm and carried the ice cream. -Jonah

Olson and Piscano Cookie Dough

We finally got the cookie dough to dispense properly. The program had a few kinks we needed to work out and fix in order to make it work. We added a wait block after the gate came down to dispense at the proper time when the conveyor got to our station. Also, we fixed the physical design of the location of the ltrasonic sensor and spout to pour out the cookie dough. Other than that, everything had worked previously and we were good to go.

Calvin Brown's Final thoughts

We had to add a wait class at the last minute, which stopped the robot giving it time to wait for the conveyor. Upon doing this our robot completed its best effort and around 10 sprinkles went into the bowl. We felt the project was pretty cool in instrumental in implementing the wide array of skills we learned. I enjoyed the project and watching our own designed robotics work in union.
Our conveyor belt finally works! Everything went according to plan. We had to fix a couple things like extending the arm on the robot so that the conveyor could see it with the sensor. In the final run, every robot functioned as it was programmed to do and nothing was off that badly. So in the end everything went well and everyone was basically happy. This is Josef Luague and this is my final blog.

Final Reeses Project. Reed, John, Matt

Bernice was a good robot. We had to move the arm of Bernice out more so that when the conveyor sensed our arm our bottle would pour our Reeses into the bowl. This was the only change that we had to make on our final day

Gold 2- Reeses Pieces Group- Lucas Isbill 2

Today we first had to adjust the time after it dispensed so it wouldn’t dispense a second time on the conveyor’s return run. We also adjusted the ultrasonic sensor’s distance to make it more sensitive to the bowl. As we tested it more, it continually jammed. To fix this problem we decided to add an extra motor that would flick the container after the dispense of the Reese’s pieces. This meant we had to remove the awesome lamps. On the program we removed the lamps and added a new motor block to move the flicker and unjam the container. It would still occasionally jam. We then changed the design using rubber bands to manage weight and removed a tire to remove potential sticking area. And we’re done!

Robosundae: Conveyor Group, Devon and Tom, Gold 2

reeces peices gold 2 second to last day

Today we ran some test runs with the robot and got the robot functioning and completing the basic commands. The program may need some tweeks like holding the trap door open long and also a longer wait after the robot dispenses the reeces. Also the distance set on the ultra sonic sensor could be increased a bit more to avoid the risk of the robot not sensing the bowl. The height on the robot was established with about a 4 inch box as the lift. Hopefully the tweeks we make next class will help us improve the consistancy of the robot.

Sprinkles final design

Recees Pieces gold 2

Today, we were able to get the machine fully working. At the beginning of the class, we were experiencing a few issues with the candy getting jammed right before it came out, but we were able to fix this by taping the tire and the bottle into place. Now, the robot dispenses the correct amount of candy into the bowl. It is also able to recognize the conveyor when it stops on the line, which is obviously a good thing. With all of these improvements in the design, our robot is ready to complete the project.

Whipped Cream Dispenser Green 3 Adrian Hanson

The Whipped Cream dispenser experienced serious technical issues today. The problem we have is the motors alone do not have the tork or power to power pull the nozzle. The entire can is also very unstable. We teamed with Jonah and Daniel to create a radically new mechanism. The new device is duck-taped right to the can and has enough power to pull the nozzle. Our problem now is working out the kinks in the machine. We also need to create a stable base for the can. Once we have these two issues resolved we can finish the rest of the program and have our dispenser operational.

syrup is ready

It is near the final day and our robot is finally working as it should. Since it is working i shall explain how it works. First the the conveyor robot moves towards our robot. Then  our robot senses the conveyor robot  and puts down a gate. The conveyor robot is stopped by the gate and it waits. After a few seconds to make sure the conveyor bot is there our robot pours the syrup. Last our robot lifts the gate and lets the conveyor bot leave.

Syrup is ready

This is it! Our robot finally works!

Syrup dispensor gold 2 Frank Reyhan

The program for our syrup dispenser is small, but effective none the less. It consists of a motor class that goes forward for 0.1 rotations and goes at a power level at 15. The next step is a wait class that keeps the bottle pointing down towards the bowl. It lasts for 6 seconds. After the wait class is finished the next motor block will start. This motor block will backwards at a power level of 29 and will last for 0.3 rotations. This process will continue for about three or four turns before we refill the bottle. We hope to add an ultrasonic sensor so that our program knows when to start.

Possible Robotics Projects

Gold 2 building the Sprinkles Robot Design part 2

Today we finished up building the robot.  We used two motors and attached them to our holder with rods at the bottom of the holder.  Then we a holder for the ultrasonic sensor underneath the nxt  we did this by attaching to long beams on both sides and then attaching the beams in the front to each other with another beam. Then attached two small curved beams to the beam that is across and then attached the ultrasonic senor.  Then we tested it and the nxt moved forward every time the sprinkles rotated forward.  We realized that this could cause problems and we attached two wheels to the back of the nxt with curved and straight beams. From this point the robot worked just fine.

Gold 2 Conveyor Group Devon Krapcho

Today has been an important day. First of all, we found some major problems in our original code, and those needed to be changed. We finalized our design for the conveyor and we feel like it will be a sufficient design. Right now our main focus is the code and the interaction between the conveyor and the other robots. Today we are planning on working with some of the other groups to begin to work with the interactions. We have made a lot of progress today, and we have a program that works. We are very excited, and the programming part of the conveyor belt is finished despite a few minor adjustments that may need to be made. We have given each group 10 seconds to dispense their toppings, and we may adjust this if some groups need additional time.

Gold 2 building the Sprinkles Robot Design part 1

Today we made a lot of changes from our initial design of our robot.  We made it so that the robot will be able to hold the sprinkles without tape; our initial design involved taping the sprinkles to a contraption on the motor.  We were able to attach and secure that sprinkles without tape by using two bend pieces connect to each other to that the flat part is on the bottom and it curves upward.  We made two of these and attached the ends to rods on both sides and then attached a straight beam on the end of it and used converting pieces to connect the beam to the rods.   Then we attached a front part that goes across the front and leaves just enough room for the sprinkles to get through.  We attached the front beams with the connectors that snap into the holes.

Syrup dispenser gold 2 Nick Ireland

Our syrup dispenser design is coming along nicely. We have built a platform for our motor that will be attached to a cage around the bottle of syrup. the motor will be programed to move the syrup bottle up and down and release the syrup onto the ice cream. In addition, we have built a "gate" that will stop the conveyor robot to allow us to run our program. We plan to be finished and caught up by the end of this class, and also get connected with the other nxts so the the entire thing will go more smoothly.
Gold 2 Candy Dispenser

Today, we were able to finish the design of our candy dispensing robot. The ultrasonic sensor is able to recognize the bowl and the candy dispenses, but it sometimes gets jammed in the water bottle. To fix this problem, we tried attaching another motor to the side of the robot that hits the bottle with a Lego piece whenever it gets jammed. This didn't  exactly work, so we are now still trying to find a way to pass the candy  pieces through the bottle without getting jammed. If we find out how to do this, all we will need to do is test with the conveyor.

Green 3 Oreos

We have successfully finished the constructing of our robot oreo contraption. Our program is timed perfectly to where the perfect amount of oreos falls into the sundae each and every time. Our oreo contraption is the bomb. It uses a trap door which is a component to the Indiana Jones movies where a timer releases the door and then closes it to cut off the oreos from pouring continuously into the dish. The cup is filled with oreos and the trap door opens releasing them into the dish. Then once the right amount is in the dish the trap door closes again.

It's getting creamy in Gold 2 Michael Muller (Whipped Cream)

Unfortunately we were unable to continue with the design that we had planned. The original design was to have the whipped cream bottle face down vertically and have motors pull the nozzle with string. Despite our efforts, the motors were unable to create enough force to secrete the cream. Now we are focusing our efforts on a new set up, in which the whipped cream is inside a bag and 2 motors act like hammers and pound away until the cream comes out. The program is currently being developed for the motors to work, and we are using an ultrasonic sensor for detecting when the conveyor comes by to receive the cream.

Whipped Cream Group, Green 3, Tony D'Arienzo

Today was a day that did not go too well. We continued to work on the design and found a few problems. First, the vertical design was causing the container to become unstable. So we moved the motor to a horizontal position and attempted to stabilize it. We found, however, that this position was not quite working. We added a motor on the other side that might help the robot be able to get the power necessary to work the nozzle. We also started to work on a program for the robot to work. Our robot is still a work in progress.
